There is a new book coming out in less than a week, which I am so looking forward to, I wanted to write a post about it, even before I read it. That is the new book from Drs. Eades of Protein Power fame.
Due to be released next Tuesday, September 8:
The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle: The Simple Plan to Flatten Your Belly Fast!
The reason I am so exited about this book, is because I think it will be teaching some of the same principles and techniques I have been learning recently about leptin and insulin. For anyone who missed them, links to my previous posts about leptin, meal timing and intermittent fasting are at the bottom of this post.
I have been finding that managing leptin sensitivity is key to losing the stubborn visceral fat, that the Eades are calling the middle-aged middle. I am guessing that their 6-week plan will be similar to, or at least compatible with, the techniques I have recently employed to combat leptin/insulin resistance and significantly lower my blood sugar.
I am totally guessing, but I expect to see something like:
Here is what Amazon says we can learn from The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle:
All topics I want to learn more about. Except inner and outer tube fat measurement. I don’t even know what that is. But I don’t mind learning about it if that’s what it takes! I just can’t wait to get started losing my visceral fat.
Dr. Mike wrote about his upcoming book in his blog yesterday (including an excerpt!): The 6-Week Cure or how I changed my mind about rapid weight loss. His story will make you chuckle. FYI: I follow the blogs of both Drs. Eades. I find them very interesting and informative.
Also in Dr. Mike’s post is his assurance that people can lose pretty significant amounts of fat in the six-week program… very interesting. As someone who carries a substantial amount of body fat, I really wonder how much I could lose in just six weeks. Let’s find out, shall we??
My plan is to follow the 6-week program, and post my results weekly. After I have received the book and read it, I’ll post my starting stats, and off I go… hopefully to shrinking abdomen land!

thats been my big issue over the last four months. my exercise keeps my limbs, neck ect, shrinking, but my belly fat just sits here. I NEED THAT BOOK!
Good Morning, Rachel!! After reading Dr. Mike’s post about rapid weight loss and the six-week cure, I’m really optimistic that the plan can give us some good benefits. We only have to wait about one more week to see what it is really about. Have a great Labor Day weekend!
Did you get your IE 6 to read more than 4-5 lines in Dr. Eade’s blog? I have the same issue with IE 6. I am running XP with SP 3 & IE 6 with all known upgrades. If I find a solution, I will pass it along. Right now I am copying the web page into Word 2003, and I can read the comments just fine.
I have added your blog to my Low Carb list.
Thank you,
I am with you, Bob. I have to copy the text into word to read it. I run IE 6 on my work computer, and still have the same problem. However, I don’t have the same problem at home where I run IE 7. Thanks for adding my blog to your list!
Can anyone tell me if reduced fat , natural, peanut butter, a teaspoon or so is permitted to put in a protien shake on The 6 Week Cure?
Hi, I couldn’t say for sure. I didn’t see any peanut butter mentioned in the rules or the meal plans for weeks 1-2. No legumes are allowed in weeks 3-4, so if you’re making a meal-replaement shake for a week 3-4, you should not use any peanut butter.
Assuming you are in weeks 1-2: I think the main things to consider are the amount of carbs and the amount of calories, since this phase is supposed to be both carb- and calorie-restricted. An extra teaspoon of fat in a shake shouldn’t be enough to derail you, so first off, I probably would not reject it for calories. So, I think it depends on the carb content of your peanut butter.
A typical teaspoon of Reduced fat PB has about 2.2 grams of carbs in it. If you limited it to only one teaspoon in one shake each day, it should be OK, maybe even twice a day. If you put it in all three shakes that would be 6.6 carbs for the day. If you’re not eating many carbs in your solid meal, the PB in the shakes shouldn’t hurt you. Unless you want the PB for the texture, you could consider sugar free peanut butter DaVinci Syrup. I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know if it’s any good.
I think the usual caution against PB for low carbers is that it is so easy to overeat it, and get dozens of carbs before you realize how much you’ve eaten. So, as long as you measure it and limit it properly, it is probably ok to have a tiny amount.
If you want a definite answer from THE expert, you can also ask Dr. Mike Eades himself. He answers questions left in the comments of HIS blog. He has answered plenty of questions for me. Here is a link: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike
Thank you very much, that clarifes the issue, and I can certainly over do!
